Does tobacco reduce the effect of xanax?

Nicotine is quite a powerful drug that affects the central nervous system and causes physical changes in blood pressure levels. Even if you find xanax calms you, it’s always better to quit smoking to avoid diseases of the lungs and heart, and reduce the more general threat of cancer.

In reality, clinical tests prove that the concentration of xanax in the blood stream of those who smoke is only half that of non-smokers. In other words, if you smoke, you would have to take twice as many xanax tablets to get the same effect — a dosage that could be dangerously high. No matter how much benefit you may feel you get from smoking, you should stop. Finally, never increase the dosage without first discussing the issue with your doctor. An overdose can result in serious health problems resulting in a coma, followed by death in some cases.
